About this tool

Switches text between UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and kebab-case, rewriting as you type. Paste a column of headings, a list of field names or a single line; the result updates without a button.

The first four are typography and the last four are identifiers, which is why one tool covers both: the work is the same, and the person renaming a database column this morning is fixing a heading this afternoon. Identifier styles split the input into words first - on spaces, hyphens, underscores and at each capital inside a run like parseHTTPResponse - then rejoin them the way the target style wants. That splitting step is what separates a case converter from a find-and-replace, and it is why userID becomes user_id rather than user_i_d.

Which style you need is usually decided by a convention rather than by taste. JavaScript and Java name variables in camelCase and types in PascalCase; Python and Rust use snake_case; CSS classes, URL slugs and most command-line flags use kebab-case; SQL columns are conventionally snake_case because unquoted identifiers are case-folded anyway. Converting between them is a routine part of moving data from an API into a database, or a spreadsheet header into code.

Title Case here capitalises each word, which is the common convention rather than a publisher's style guide: real editorial title case leaves articles and short prepositions lowercase, and the rules differ between Chicago, AP and the rest. Sentence case capitalises only the first letter and leaves the rest alone, so existing acronyms survive. Everything runs in the browser, so a list of customer names or internal field names is never uploaded.

Questions people actually ask

What is the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?
Only the first letter. camelCase starts lowercase (userName), PascalCase starts uppercase (UserName). The convention in most languages is camelCase for variables and functions, PascalCase for classes and types, which is why the two exist side by side rather than one being a mistake.
Why is snake_case used in databases?
Because unquoted identifiers in SQL are case-folded - PostgreSQL lowercases them, Oracle uppercases them - so a column written as userName comes back as username and the capital that separated the words is simply gone. An underscore survives that, which is why snake_case became the convention and why a camelCase column has to be quoted forever after.
Does converting to camelCase handle acronyms?
It splits on the capital that starts a run, so parseHTTPResponse becomes parse_http_response rather than parse_h_t_t_p_response. Going the other way, http_response becomes httpResponse - the original capitalisation of the acronym cannot be recovered, because it is not in the input any more.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion is a few lines of JavaScript running on this page, so the text never leaves your device. That matters more than it sounds for this tool: the things people case-convert are field names, customer lists and internal schemas.
