Choose the right text tool
Start with what you want to do with the text. Formatting tools change its form, analysis tools measure or compare it, while encoders and ciphers serve different purposes.
Change the form
Use case conversion, whitespace cleanup or sorting when the wording should stay the same and only its presentation or order needs to change.
Inspect or compare
Use a word counter, character counter or text comparison when you need measurements, differences or a quick check without rewriting the source.
Encode or encrypt
Base64 is a reversible encoding for transporting data, not a security feature. Caesar, Atbash and Vigenère ciphers are useful for learning and puzzles, but they do not protect sensitive information.
