About this tool

Paste Python code and format it with Ruff's syntax-aware formatter. Set the preferred line length, indentation, quote style and magic trailing-comma behaviour.

Python indentation is part of the language, so this tool uses a real Python parser rather than generic whitespace rules. Invalid syntax is rejected and valid blocks, comprehensions, calls and strings are printed consistently.

Ruff runs as WebAssembly in a dedicated browser worker. The code stays on the device and the formatter is loaded only when this page is used.

Questions people actually ask

Is this a real Python parser?
Yes. The tool uses Ruff compiled to WebAssembly, not regular expressions or a generic indentation algorithm.
Is the source code uploaded?
No. Parsing and formatting run in the browser. The language engine is loaded on demand and the source stays on the device.
Can formatting change program behaviour?
The formatter is designed to preserve the parsed program while normalising line length, quotes and trailing commas. Review a diff before committing, especially when a repository enforces different style rules.
